Illegal numbers games is a social menace corrupting the moral fiber, says Ormoc City Police Office city director Police Senior Superintendent Elizar Patano Egloso. Its profit is derived from false economic value often than not obtained from hard earned daily wage most often by the poor. It simply swallops up the money so swiftly in the adventure for quick profit or gain promised by the vicious game of chance of illegal numbers game to the detriment and misery of many in the family - socially determined by studies as the cause of other social problems such as theft, drunkness and other forms of crime in their effort to address poverty and want.
It is a vicious cycle that has to be stopped says Police Community Relations chief Police Superintendent Ma. Elma B. Delos Santos. There are decent economic activity many can undertake. In fact government social services are there providing families to alleviate economic want through its livelihood programs and the conditional cash transfer (CCT) program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Families can simply sign up for it and begin a productive and legal undertaking to address poverty. The department have been effective in the program, among others; and have made great strides in alleviating many families in carrying out the flagship program of the leadership of the country.
Finally, community cooperation in the campaign against illegal numbers game significantly contributes to widening police legal offensive against the activity. Real time call to OCPO HOTLINE 255-2232 which police will hold with confidentiality will strongly help stop this sort of activity, PSSUPT Egloso concluded.
