Access road to Bukidnon flower sanctuary completed

MANILA, Philippines - The construction of a P150-million access road in Bukidnon, which is expected to draw more tourists to Rafflesia Yard -– the province’s largest flower sanctuary – has been completed.

Public Works and Highways Region 10 director Evelyn Barroso said the road was constructed under the Tourism Infrastructure Program.

Rafflesia Yard is in Sitio Kalanganan in Barangay San Vicente in Baungon town. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources declared the flower sanctuary as a critical habitat of the largest flower in the Philippines – rafflesia schadenbergiana – also known as bo-o or kolon busaw to the Bogobo and Higaonon tribes. It is the second largest flower in the world with a diameter that can reach up to 80 centimeters.

The eight-kilometer road is 6.1 meters wide and .23 meters thick.
