MANILA, Philippines -- Justice Secretary Leila M. De Lima on Monday ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to conduct an in-depth investigation into the death of a college student as a result of fraternity hazing.
According to De Lima, she has instructed NBI Director Virgilio Mendez to coordinate with the Philippine National Police (PNP) in the case of Guillo Cesar Servando, a sophomore HRM (hotel and restaurant management) student of the De La Salle University-College of Saint Benilde who died due to a violent fraternity initiation.
Initial investigation showed that Servando died when he sustained serious physical injuries after undergoing a fraternity initiation rite by the Alpha Kappa Rho (AKRHO).
Aside from Servando, three fellow students have also sustained serious physical injuries after undergoing the initiation.
