LTFRB grounds fleet of bus firm in SLEX accident - GMA News

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Thursday ordered the grounding of 23 buses of Southern Carrier Co., Inc., after one of the bus firm's units figured in an accident along the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) last Monday.

LTFRB chairman Winston Ginez issued the directive after revoking the franchise of SCCI, which owns the bus that turned on its side at the SLEX three days ago, injuring over 40 passengers.

A team from the LTFRB will go to the SCCI garage in Batangas City on Friday to confiscate the hire plates of its buses, Ginez added.

The board also canceled the certificate of public convenience earlier issued to SCCI.

On Monday, an SCCI bus figured in an accident at the SLEX northbound lane near Sta. Rosa in Laguna. Drug paraphernalia and a bottle of liquor were recovered from the bus, although the driver already reportedly tested negative for drug use.

The SLEX accident was just one of the accidents involving passenger buses in the last few months. Last February, a bus fell off the road in Mountain Province, killing 14 people, including activist-comedian Arvin "Tado" Jimenez and several artists. — Andreo Calonzo/KBK, GMA News
