Local NGO spearheads validation for CARE Shelter Repair Kit distribution



ALBUERA, Leyte, February 23 (PIA) – A local non-government organization has partnered with the Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere (CARE) International for the validation of household beneficiaries of shelter repair kits for in the Yolanda-hit municipalities of Albuera and Ormoc City, both in Leyte province.


Heading the Project is Mrs. Jazmin Jakosalem, executive director of Leyte Center for Development Incorporated (LCDE) and partner CARE, through Mr. Faizal Cader, Shelter Director for Ormoc-Albuera area.


According to Jakosalem, the project will benefit some two thousand five hundred households (2,500) in Albuera and Ormoc City to be chosen by the LCDE team from the hardly hit barangays through a validation system.


She said she recently visited Albuera, Leyte, where she discussed with the LCDE Ormoc-Albuera team some major concerns in the selection and validation of beneficiaries and other relevant concerns in the implementation of the project.


Initial tally revealed that the team has already validated some one thousand eight hundred beneficiaries and is expected to finish next week in order to facilitate the distribution of shelter repair kits.


The repair kits include 10 pcs corrugated GI sheets 8 feet, plain sheet, 3 kilos umbrella nails, 1 aluminum screen 3.8 meters, elastrometric seal, 1.6 kilo GI wire, 2 kilos common nail #3, 2 kilos common nail #4, 1 kilo flat nail #1, 1 box stalpe wire, tin snip (gunting pang yero), saw, hammer, plastic bag, 5 kilos metal strap and a cash grant worth three thousand pesos (P 3,000.00).


Among the barangay beneficiaries selected from Albuera Leyte includes Brgy. Dona Maria, Mahayahay, Salvacion, Antipolo, Tina-an and Mahayag while the selected barangays of Ormoc City includes Brgy. Monterico, Ga-as, Leandoni, Liberty and Nueva Sociodad.

“These selected barangays are among those who have not been reached by the government in terms of relief assistance, rehabilitation and livelihood. These barangays are also the hardest hit that needs emergency assistance,” Madam Jazmin Jerusalem explained.

The Leyte Center for Development, Inc. (LCDE) is primarily a disaster response non-government and development-oriented organization (NGDO) working towards a citizenry-based disaster response and sustainable community development.
