ODH wards refurbished by Rotary Club of Ormoc

A portion of the city government run-Ormoc District Hospital was given a new look by the members of the Rotary Club of Ormoc. According to the group’s president, Troy Bumagat, the adopted ward as well as the comfort room of the said public hospital need repainting reason why they have undertaken the activity
The 7-bed surgical ward was temporarily uninhabited in five days to get the speedy repainting and fixing of the comfort room done. The current and past presidents even assisted the workers in the repainting to make the room quickly available to patients that some even occupied the lobby. Dr. Ma. Lourdes de Lara Banquesio, ODH chief of hospital, said that during the visit of District 3860 Rotary governor Edgar Chungbian Tuesday, she requested their group to include Room 33, a ward of the said hospital, to provide the patients another fresh room to stay that the government cannot sustain due to lack of funds.
“The rotarians did more works to room 33. That aside from repainting, the windows and flooring were fixed, tiles were installed and the comfort room was rehabilitated”, said Banquesio. She hopes that with the help of other private organizations, the whole wing of the surgical wards that accommodate charity patients composed of five rooms be totally renovated so as to provide better services.
She added that currently the Rotary Club of Ormoc and the Ormocanon International have extended help to ODH and the management is thankful for the good deeds. Other groups have signified to the adopt-a-room program of the hospital while she keeps on encouraging other private individuals or organizations to emulate the two. The OI completely renovated the children’s wards that included water lines, lobby, nurse’ station and a lavatory some three years ago.
The ODH has an ongoing construction of P39 million of two-storey building expansion for the outpatient department (OPD) funded by the Department of Health. The hospital dietary and laundry sections are also being built while the construction of isolation room and OB ward expansion had just started as funded by the Department of Public Works and Highways that are expected to end this year, said Banquesio. The 100-bed capacity of ODH is increased to 160 per day as the hospital cannot decline patients as far as 2nd and 3rd districts.
