Massacre suspect attempts suicide

Maasin City Provincial Jail - Mark Jonie Pelen, the suspect in the brutal hacking to death of 4 people (included two toddlers) and seriously injuring 9 others in Padre Burgos last month has attempted to end his own life by (you guessed it) slashing his wrists with the razor sharp edges of a can of sardines he had somehow opened.

The 22 year old suspect was rushed to the Provincial Hospital where doctors treated his wounds. Pelen who insists his hacking spree was triggered by hallucination causing drugs which his friends placed in his drinks now claims he did not know what he was doing and has since joined a religious organization at the Provincial Jail and was singing praises to the Lord.

SLT correspondent and marketing officer Chisil Arnaiz who interviewed Pelen said the suspect had dramatically transformed into a man who was at peace with himself and no longer afraid of his fellow detainees.
