Leyte prepares for the Brgy. and SK elections

Preparations are now underway for the forthcoming Barangay and Sangguniang kabataan elections this coming October.
This was disclosed by Police Inspector Romuel Nacar, media relations officer of Police Regional Office 8 during the Suruswerte Program ha PIA aired over a local radio station in this city. According to Nacar, the leadership of Police Regional Office 8 through Police chief Supt. Elmer Soria has formulated a command memorandum circular no. 23 series of 2013 or SAFE 2013 Alpha Waray to ensure a peaceful and secure brgy. and SK elections.
This would include the establishment of Regional Special Operations Task Group Northern Samar for being one of the priority areas this coming elections. Based on the assessment and evaluation conducted by PNP last may 2007 and 2010 elections, it has recorded more untoward incidents in Northern Samar compared to other parts in the region.
However, the PNP will continue intensifying its security preparations in coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines, The Commission on Elections and other authorities particularly in areas considered as “election area of immediate concern” and “election area of concern”. Out of 4,390 barangays in the region, 293 will be the focus of police operations. Of the figure, 203 are being placed under “areas of concern” while 90 barangays are being considered “election areas of immediate concern”.
Northern Samar has the most number of barangays being categorized as “areas of immediate concern” with 60 brgys. Said barangays has recorded violent incidents during election while the Province of Leyte has 9 brgys, Samar; 16, and Eastern Samar; 5. Furthermore, those that belong to the category as ‘Election area of concern” are the 23 brgys. in Leyte, 74 in Samar, 40 in Eastern Samar and 65 in Northern Samar.
