First rubberized brgy basketball court inaugurated

Punta is the first barangay of this city to install chlorinated rubber base to its basketball court in Punta gym to ensure safety of the users and to enhance the beauty. Chairman Glenn Alvin Maglasang is the brain of the rehabilitation of the gym provided by then Mayor Eric Codilla to the barangay and supervised the entire work that costs P193,000 , a project of the Sangguniang Kabataan chaired by Menchie Catingub. Maglasang said it took 27 days to finish the project due to the holes of the flooring that needed much works in resurfacing to prepare the application of the rubber base paint. He said epo-syl and epo-patch were first done that got larger pie of the whole budget. The project likewise gave employment to the skilled residents of the village who were hired to do the job.
With the completion of the work, Maglasang hoped that in a little way, it could contribute to decrease the usage of the city superdome court by bringing some of the games to the barangay. In addition, he wished other barangays to spare ample amount and duplicate their endeavor so to help curtail risk of its game players especially in basketball game who utilize the barangay courts. He said he is willing to assist other barangays in work supervision. The project was presented to Mayor Edward Codilla who graced the basketball opening in Aug. 9 dubbed as the 1st Mario Maglasang Memorial Cup, named after the late father of incumbent barangay chairman and served as the inauguration of the court’s newly installed rubber base. The court has now a colorful and shiny look that entices players and creates awareness to keep it clean all the time.
Chairman Maglasang showed the barangay accomplishment to Mayor Codilla to prove that barangay should not always depends to the city of its needs and that it can nourish through its own resources. He added that as an engineer, he envisioned of rehabilitating the gym long before he took the seat in the barangay hall. During his birthday celebration last August 13, Maglasang realized his late father’s wish who died in 1998 – to hold a basketball tournament in their village. With funds taken from his pocket, four teams each in collegiate and secondary vied for the 1st cup and Inter-Purok basketball tournament to culminate in September. The students received a trophy and a cash while the winning purok gets P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000 for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd, respectively. All the games utilized the rehabilitated court in Punta gym.
