Village chief killed in Iloilo ambush

MANILA, Philippines - Motorcycle-riding gunmen killed a barangay chairman in an ambush in  Lambunao, Iloilo on Thursday.

Raul Ganadillo, 51, of Barangay Pandan was driving an owner-type jeep on his way home when the gunmen who had tailed him, shot him from behind, said Chief Inspector Elmer Armada, Lambunao police chief.

Ganadillo was declared dead on arrival at the Ricardo Ladrido Memorial District Hospital.

Ganadillo’s wife said the victim had been receiving death threats, as investigators are looking at politics, a case filed against a barangay councilman and the quarry operations in the village as possible motives for the attack.

Police invited for questioning two persons, who were seen repainting a motorcycle after the incident.
