Yap improves rank in Int’l. Chess Open

FROM a starting rank of 26th, Cebuano IM Kim Steven Yap moved up to the 18th place following a remarkable performance after four rounds at the 5th HDBank International Open Chess tournament held in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam yesterday.
Yap, who is seeking his first GM norm and an improvement on his fifth place finish last year, has a total of 2.5 points after four rounds. He scored a win and three draws in this cash-rich tournament that offers $30,000 in total cash prizes.
