Inflation, higher pay are top of mind for Pinoys: poll - ABS CBN News



MANILA - What are the most urgent national concerns for Filipinos today? According to the latest Pulse Asia survey, Filipinos are most concerned about controlling inflation (46%), improving/increasing pay of workers (44%) and fighting graft and corruption in government (40%).


Other issues perceived as most urgent by Filipinos include reducing poverty (34%), creating more jobs (31%) and fighting criminality (23%).


The survey revealed that Filipinos are least concerned about environmental degradation (13%), population control (9%), national territorial integrity (5%), terrorism (5%) and Charter change (4%).


Pulse Asia said disapproval is the plurality opinion towards the administration's efforts to control inflation (44%). "On the other hand, public opinion is split three-ways as regards its initiative to increase workers' pay, with 33% approval, 35% indecision and 33% disapproval)," the survey said.


It also showed that the Aquino administration got big plurality to near majority approval ratings in seven national issues including:


Promoting peace in the country (40%),

Enforcing the rule of law (41),

Fighting governmental corruption (42%),

Defending national territorial integrity (43%),

Fighting criminality (45%),

Protecting the environment (48%), and

Addressing the needs of calamity victims (49%).


A total of 1,200 representative adults participated in the survey. The survey has a ± 3% error margin at the 95% confidence level.
