Carvajal: True hero
Do you like this story?
HE had always been acknowledged as the “father of modern Singapore.” As proof of that, the line of those paying their last respects to their hero stretched for two miles. It spoke volumes about how Lee Kuan Yew was admired by his countrymen that it took all of eight humid hours under a hot tropical sun for someone at the end of the line to reach the great statesman’s casket.
How indecent does that make of us who continue to consider giving a hero’s burial to a dictator who was driven out of office by an angry nation, died in exile and was mourned only by family members and cronies?
