MANILA, Philippines - Makati City Mayor Jejomar Erwin "Junjun" Binay on Wednesday attended the Senate investigation into the alleged overpriced parking building of the Makati City Hall.
Live television footage showed Binay earlier talking to Navotas City Representative Toby Tiangco, a known member of the United Nationalist Alliance and ally of Vice President Jejomar Binay.
The ongoing investigation of the Senate Blue Ribbon sub-committee headed by Senator Aquilino Pimentel III started at 10 a.m.
The Makati mayor, his father and several others are facing a plunder case filed before the ombudsman over the construction of the P1.56-billion controversial parking building located along F. Zobel street in Barangay Poblacion.
The 11-story building was constructed from 2007 - when the elder Binay was still mayor - to 2013. It has a total floor area of 31,928 square meters, a roof deck, offices and six floors used as parking areas.
The plunder case against the Binays was filed by lawyer Renato Bondal, who lost to the younger Binay in the last mayoral race.
