MALOLOS CITY, Philippines – It is a special non-working holiday in Bulacan today as the province celebrates the 226th birth anniversary of the great poet Francisco “Balagtas” Baltazar.
Gov. Wilhelmino Alvarado said this year’s event, with the theme “Bayan, Bayani, at si Balagtas,” is highlighted by the Lakbay Balagtas organized by the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino.
The literary journey will visit three sites crucial to Balagtas’s life and works such as Pandacan in Manila where a park and a monument were dedicated to him, Balagtas town in Bulacan where he was born, and Orion town in Bataan where he died.
