Manila, Philippines – Two pipe wrenches reportedly purchased from a competing hardware store were used in the robbery at a mall by the bay last Sunday.

And one of the five suspected members of the “Martilyo Gang” involved in the robbery has been charged, police said yesterday.

Police identified the suspect as Ryan Bansawan, 23, of South Cotabato. An identification card from the suspect said he resides on Bautista St., Alabang, Muntinlupa City and or Triumph Compound, FTI, Taguig City.

Bansawan was charged with robbery with frustrated homicide, attempted homicide and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition before the Pasay City Prosecutor’s Office.

Bansawan was found and arrested by police inside a restaurant after the incident. Witnesses positively identified him as one of the robbers.

Recovered from him was a .45 caliber pistol with one magazine assembly and seven live ammunition.

Meanwhile, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said yesterday that it is coordinating with its counterparts in the Pasay City police to determine if the robbers also ransacked two jewelry stores in another mall in Quezon City in December 2013.

Inspector Alan dela Cruz, chief of the theft and robbery section of the QCPD-Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) based in Camp Karingal, said a police team have been sent to Pasay City to check on the matter. (Mitch Arceo and Francis T. Wakefield)
