Janet Lim-Napoles, the alleged brains behind the P10B pork barrel scam, was brought to the Ospital ng Makati under tight security escort late Monday night to undergo surgery for her uterine myoma.

Napoles, donned in a white polo shirt and without a bullet-proof vest, arrived in the hospital at 10:15 p.m. and was immediately whisked into the out-patient section by uniformed escorts and security personnel.

An eight to 10-vehicle convoy, including two ambulances, reportedly accompanied Napoles during the 45-minute trip from her detention cell at Fort Sto. Domingo in Sta. Rosa, Laguna to OsMak.

Tight security

Since her detention, Napoles always attracts a crowd whenever she is moved from one place to another.

Last night was no exception.

From Fort Sto. Domingo to OsMak, uniformed escorts were on their toes, while members of the media buckled down for hours-long stakeout.

Security personnel were likewise ready inside the hospital the minute Napoles walked in. Streets around the hospital such as Sampaguita and Amapola have been closed to motorists.

Makati's elite forces, K-9 units, and mobile patrols were on hand to augment the already-tight security.

As if anticipating battle, bullet-proof vests, sub-machine guns, and other power gear were out.

But up on the 7th floor where Napoles was confined, everything was quiet – with only immediate relatives and some doctors patiently waiting for her.

According to Sr. Supt. Manuel Lukban, Makati Police Chief, Napoles was brought to a room just enough to accommodate her and two visitors. Implements are a small bed, comfort room, air-conditioner, and two chairs.

"Along the way, parang nanghihina na raw si Mrs. Napoles kaya tsinek nila ‘yung sa coordination, ‘yung sa security dito. Noong tinanong ako, sinabi ko namang maayos dito kaya pinayagan ko namang mag-alis ng vest at pinayagan na lang na ilakad nang maayos dahil hindi maganda ang pakiramdam niya sa pagbiyahe sa kanya," said Lukban.

Only Napoles’ doctors, lawyers, and close family members are reportedly allowed to pay her a visit, subject to the normal visiting hours being enforced by OsMak.

It's not clear how many hours or days Napoles will be confined in the medical institution as of this posting, although reports say she is scheduled to undergo several tests first starting today, April 1, to determine if she is fit enough to go under the knife.

The Makati Regional Trial Court on Friday granted Napoles’ petition for hospital treatment to remove a uterine cyst. Napoles earlier requested to be admitted at the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City, but was only allowed to seek medical treatment at the Ospital ng Makati.

Motion junked

Meanwhile, the Court of Appeals denies Napoles' petition seeking to dismiss an illegal detention case against her and her brother, Reynald Lim.

In a resolution, the court said it finds no compelling reason to reverse or nullify the case.

The court added that Napoles' petition is worthless as findings show there is probable cause against her.

Napoles is detained at Fort Sto. Domingo in Santa Rosa, Laguna for illegally detaining pork barrel scam whistle-blower Benhur Luy from December 2012 to March 2013.

In her petition, Napoles blamed the Justice Department's Task Force on Anti-Kidnapping for the case as it reversed an earlier decision recommending the dismissal of the complaint.

Napoles said the reversal was made even if no additional evidence was presented. – Solar News Online, with additional reports by Rex Remitio
