MANILA, Philippines – At least 44 were injured in a multiple vehicle collision involving three passenger buses along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City early Saturday.

A radio report said a speeding Nova Auto Transport Bus lost control and plowed through Safeway Bus and Marikina Autoline Bus around 6 a.m. Saturday.

The injured passengers were rushed to East Avenue Medical Center.

The driver of Nova Auto Transport bus fled from the scene but surrendered himself to Quezon City Police District Traffic Sector 5 shortly after.

Commonwealth Avenue has been the scene of many accidents, including one that claimed the life of journalist Lourdes “Chit” Estella in May 2011.
