Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Haji Mohammad Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak has confirmed his attendance in the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) today.
This was announced by Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda, in a press briefing yesterday.
“Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Haji Mohammad Najib bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak will undertake a working visit to the Philippines on March 27, 2014 upon the invitation of President Aquino in order to witness the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement on the Bangsamoro,” Lacierda said.
He said that before the signing ceremony, Prime Minister Najib and President Aquino will “briefly discuss mutual concerns between the Philippines and Malaysia.”
“We know for a fact that Malaysia is undergoing a crisis owing to fact of the disappearance of the Malaysia airline,” Lacierda said.
“Be that as it may, Malaysia is fully aware of its international commitments and we thank them that despite the difficulty they are encountering, that they have accepted our invitation to grace the signing of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro,” he said.
Malaysian Prime Minister Najib had earlier committed to personally witness the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement but the search for the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 had been a priority. (Madel Sabater – Namit)
