50 hurt after 3 bus units collide in QC - Manila Standard Today

AT least 50 people were injured as three passenger buses figured in an early morning smash-up on Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City on Saturday.

Senior Police Officer 4 Henry Se, chief of the Investigation Section of the Quezon City Traffic Sector 5, said the accident occurred at around 6 a.m when a speeding Nova Auto Transport bus hit a Safeway and Marikina Autoline buses that were unloading passengers at the Philcoa area.

The driver of the Nova bus fled the scene of the accident but surrendered to police several hours later, Se said, adding that Se said charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries and damage to properties will be filed against the drivers of the three buses.

“They are speeding because they were competing for passengers,” Se said, noting that all the injured were passengers of the three buses.

Se said the Marikina Auto Line Transit bus (VVT 155) was driven by Anthony Malangan while the Safeway (UVJ 465) was driven by Clifford Reyes.

Both buses were loading passengers when the Nova Auto Transport bus (TWL 693) driven by Mario Rogelio Jr., hit the side of the Marikina Auto Line Transit bus and subsequently rear-ended the Safeway bus.

The police said the injured victims were rushed for treatment at the East Avenue Medical Center and there were no fatalities at press time.
