Yolanda survivors get shelter kits



About 2,500 families that survived last year’s super typhoon Yolanda in Albuera and Ormoc in Leyte province will receive shelter kits and cash assistance from non-governmental organizations.


The Leyte Center for Development Inc. in partnership with Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere (CARE International) validated the household beneficiaries in barangay Dona Maria, Mahayahay, Salvacion, Antipolo, Tina-an and Mahayag in Albuera and barangay Monterico, Ga-as, Leandoni, Liberty and Nueva Sociedad in Ormoc city.


“These selected barangays are among those who have not been reached by the government in terms of relief assistance, rehabilitation and livelihood. These barangays are also the hardest hit that needs emergency assistance,” said Jazmin Jerusalem, LCDE executive director, told Manila Standard.


The shelter package covers 10 pcs corrugated GI sheets 8 feet, plain sheet, 3 kilos umbrella nails, 1 aluminum screen 3.8 meters, elastrometric seal, 1.6 kilo GI wire, 2 kilos common nail #3, 2 kilos common nail #4, 1 kilo flat nail #1, 1 box staple wire, tin shears, saw, hammer, plastic bag, 5 kilos metal strap and a P3,000 cash grant.
