Piston to govt: Build more mass transport systems
Do you like this story?
MANILA, Philippines - Transport group Piston on Friday said the government should construct a modern mass transport system and not "skyways" which cause traffic congestion in urban areas in the country.
Piston national president George San Mateo said more skyways translate to more private vehicles on the roads which in turn result to traffic snarls.
Drivers of public utility vehicles, particularly jeepney drivers, would have lesser trips daily due to heavy traffic caused by the road repairs, he added.
San Mateo said the government should look at subway train systems and mass railway system which would not result in traffic congestion.
Such mass transport systems will even encourage the public to commute and will rid of the roads of 80 percent of private vehicles, he said.
