Palace: AFP, PNP prepared for urban warfare - ABS CBN News

MANILA -- Malacañang on Tuesday gave assurances that the military and police are prepared for the possibility that the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) will resort to urban warfare.

Presidential Communications Secretary Sonny Coloma said government authorities are not complacent.

Coloma also noted that the Department of Social Welfare and Development's (DSWD) offices in Mindanao will address the reported use of BIFF of child warriors.

He said the use of child soldiers is unreasonable, unjust and inhumane.

According to the military, at least 3 child rebel soldiers were killed in clashes in Maguindanao last week.

The child soldiers are between the ages of 15 to 16 years old.

The BIFF, a breakaway group of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), is opposed to the peace process.

At least 52 of its members were reportedly killed in the military offensive, which erupted right after the government and MILF signed the final annex to a peace deal seeking to end the decades-long insurgency in Mindanao that has killed thousands of people.
