Manila truck strike ends - Tempo

Manila, Philippines – The truck holiday in Manila has ended.
The city government of Manila has extended the window period permitting trucks to utilize city roads, ending a three-day strike by truckers that began last Monday, the first day of implementation of the daytime truck ban.
However, Manila Mayor Joseph E. Estrada clarified that the city government merely added two more hours in the 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. window hour to truckers.
Estrada denied reports that he has allowed the truckers to use city roads 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
“Kung makakasikip sila, ibabalik natin sa 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. We are experimenting on this,” Estrada said, adding that he is open to the idea of amending the ordinance if it is ineffective.
Estrada said the city government relaxed the restrictions after the heads of the Metro Manila Development Authority and Department of Public Works and Highways said they will make representations to pave the way for the opening of the Sidestreets 13 to 24 of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) for the use of truckers to eliminate parking within the city.
