'Basyang' weakens as it heads to Palawan - Inquirer.net

MANILA, Philippines —Tropical storm “Basyang” weakened into a tropical depression before noon Saturday as it approaches northern Palawan, the state weather bureau said.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its 11 a.m. bulletin that Basyang’s strength weakened to 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center.
It is spotted at 339 kilometers northeast of Puerto Princesa City or at 152 km southeast of Coron, Palawan.
Basyang is forecast to be at outside the Philippine area of responsibility or 521 km northwest of Puerto Princesa City Sunday morning.
Signal number 1 is raised over the following areas in Luzon: Romblon, Palawan including Calamian Group of Islands, southern part of Oriental Mindoro, and southern part of Occidental Mindoro.
Meanwhile, signal number 1 is raised over the following Visayas provinces: Negros Occidental, Guimaras, Aklan, Capiz, Antique and Iloilo.
Pagasa warned residents living in low lying and mountainous areas under public storm warning signal number 1 of possible flashfloods and landslides.
