Suspect ‘courier’ of Ormoc-based drug dealer

ALLEGED drug pusher Dexter Caballero was charged before the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office yesterday morning.

The Regional Special Operations Group (RSOG) filed the complaint against the suspect for violating Section 5 (selling of dangerous drugs) and Section 11 (possession of dangerous drugs) of Republic Act (RA) 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

During the inquest proceeding conducted by Assistant City Prosecutor Mary Ann Castro, Caballero, assisted by his lawyer, opted to file a counter-affidavit.

Last Tuesday night, New Year’s Eve, Caballero was arrested by the team from RSOG led by Supt. Rex Derilo.

P1.6M

Seized from him were four 100-gram packs of shabu worth P1.6 million. A pack can be subdivided into 20 five-gram packs.

The street value of a five-gram pack is about P10,000, said Derilo.

Derilo said Caballero acts only as a courier of a big-time drug personality identified as Kerwin, who is now based in Ormoc, Leyte.

Kerwin, he said, moved to Ormoc because of his competition with another drug personality in Cebu City.

Caballero, in an earlier interview, said he is not a drug pusher.

He said he was just asked to deliver the packs.

Influenced

He admitted he has been using drugs since 1996, after he was influenced by his friends.

Under RA 9165, selling illegal drugs is non-bailable.

The law also has provisions like life sentence for a drug peddler convicted of selling and possessing more than five grams of hard drugs and a 12-year imprisonment for possession of less than five grams.
