6 Wounded in Philippines Bomb Blast - Voice of America

Military officials in the southern Philippines say at least six people, including two television journalists, were wounded early Saturday when a bomb exploded on a roadside.

The blast occurred on the island of Mindanao where government troops have been fighting the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters , who are opposed to a proposed peace deal.

The group is a breakaway faction of the larger Moro Liberation Front , which last Saturday wrapped up talks aimed at establishing an autonomous Muslim region.

The BIFF has vowed to keep fighting the government, saying the MILF is making too many compromises. Several other rebel groups are also opposed to the peace efforts.

Four decades of deadly fighting in the south have killed more than 120,000 people and prevented development in the region
