Gendrano tops Ormoc race

Ysmael Gendrano won the first stage of the 2013 Terry Larrazabal Bike Festival that started and ended in front of City Hall. Gendrano clocked one hour, 55 minutes and 19.5 seconds, edging Roderic Calla, who checked in 1:55.23.1 in the 90-kilometer race.
Romeo Camingao came in third at 1:55.23.2, followed by former national rider and ex coach Joselito Santos, who landed 1:55.23.5.
Rolando Pagnanawon, the 1986 tour champion from Cebu, came in 10th in 1:55.24 and another tour veteran Ruel Gendrano checked in 35th in 1:55.27.1. Elpidio Untalan, a native of Batangas and veteran of many cycling competitions during his heydays, landed 38th in 1:55.27.6. Gendrano made it a double whammy by ruling the 40 years old and above in 1:55.19.5, edging Excellent Noodles teammate Romeo Camingao, who clocked 1:55.23.
A total of 56 riders competed in the ninth edition of the race in honor of Terry Larrazabal. It is sanctioned by Philcycling and supervised by Chief Commisaire Renato del Mundo. Sportsman-businessman and Philcylcing chairman Bert Lina arrived with his wife to grace the three days cycling competition. Larrazabal served as mayor of Ormoc during the administration of President Corazon C. Aquino.
