Suspected “salvaged” man found floating at sea in Ormoc

A fisherman from a coastal barangay in this city discovered a lifeless body of a man believed to be a victim of summary execution floating near the shore of Ormoc Bay around 5:25 p.m. on August 27. Danilo Vicera found the unidentified naked body already bloated, decomposing and reeking with foul smell, believed to have been dead for more than 24 hours. He dragged the cadaver to the shore and called for police assistance.

The result of a post mortem autopsy conducted at the City Health Office is yet to be released but the case investigator, SPO1 Mark Alexis Ruita of police station 1, said wounds were evidently seen in different parts of the dead body already occupied by fleas. He did not discount foul play to be behind the victim’s death. Although the police cannot determine if gun bullets caused these wounds or hacking for the body was already decomposing, they removed the possibility that the dead could be one of the missing passengers of 2GO Travel that capsized at Cebu seas a week ago. Since there was no claimant, the body was buried at the city public cemetery.
