Honest Ormoc traffic enforcer Rambo Camingawan, returns wallet with 10k cash
Do you like this story?
Even if he has not yet received his salary for the month of July, a traffic enforcer of this city was not tempted to slash even a single penny contained in a wallet he found while conducting official duty at the city street near Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church around 3:45 p.m. of August 9.
Rambo Camingawan, a casual employee of the city government with a salary of more than P12,000 a month, said he opted to keep the wallet for safekeeping purposes.
The 28-year old traffic enforcer said that he made an effort to contact the cellphone number from a receipt issued by a forwarding company inside the wallet hoping the information could reach the owner, identified as Celso Madjus but there was no reply.
Not losing hope to contact Madjus, Camingawan surrendered the wallet containing important documents and cash of more than P10,000 to Councilor, Antonio Codilla, in his office, last August 12.
Codilla was a former barangay chairman of Brgy. Cogon, the address stated in Madjus’ voter’s ID found in the wallet.
The new chief of Traffic Division, Senior Inspector Orlando G. Viacrusis, helped in contacting Madjus who happened to be his neighbor in Matag-ob. Madjus previously lived in Cogon, Ormoc City.
Camingawan said even if he was surprised to have seen a lot of money inside the wallet, he was never tempted to keep it to himself.
He added that he believed that money taken from a dishonest means would not bring good to his family and bad karma may fall to him.
The money, it turned out, was intended for Madjus’ mother medicine needs.
Madjus claimed the wallet from Councilor Codilla at the Ormoc City hall on August 13 and met Camingawan. Amazed and thankful that his money was still intact, he gave reward money to the enforcer for his good deed and serving as excellent example of a government servant.
