Dengue cases rising in the Province of Leyte

The health department’s regional office is concerned about the rising number of dengue cases in Southern Leyte. Regional representatives of the DOH announced that the number of cases from the mosquito-borne viral disease from January to June of this year is pointing to a trend Dengue cases rising in the province that would have more dengue cases this year than that of 2012.

The DOH is calling on all local governments, local health units, schools and families to be vigilant and play an active role in the control of mosquito colonies in their communities.

The health official’s worries are based on the fact that the rainy season has not yet set in and the mosquito population could multiply if left unchecked. Records from the January to June health report shows that there has already been 60 reported dengue cases in the province; one of which resulted in the death of a child.
