16-yr. Old boy kills brother who hacked mother to death

A 16-year old boy killed his elder brother after the latter killed their mother in an interior village of Carigara here in Leyte last Monday.

Police sources said that the minor killed his elder brother, Gilbert Tadefa, after he witnessed their mother, Rosemarie, 44, was hacked to death by the suspect.

A police officer, who asked not to be identified for not being authorized to speak before the media, said that the boy hit the head of his elder brother using a hard wood object which resulted to the instant death of his 24-year old brother.

The incident took place outside their house located in Barangay Lower Parag-um, seven kilometers away from the town proper, last Monday afternoon.

It was learned that Gilbert, said to be suffering from mental problems, ran berserk at that time by going inside the house of his uncle, Lucio Cabaltera, where he got a “sundang,” a locally-made bladed weapon.

Cabaltera was not around when the suspect went inside his house.

Rosemarie, who was outside their house, ran towards to the direction of her son Gilbert to pacify him but only to be hit by him at her head and left shoulder, which resulted to her instant death.

Gilbert then vent his anger to his younger brother and throw the “sundang” to him, but the boy managed to escape and was able to get a wood which he used in hitting his elder brother’s head that caused the instant death of his elder sibling.

Police sources said that no charges was filed against the boy who is now in the custody of his aunt.
