Ila-ilahun ta ang Albuera!

For two decades, the local government of Albuera has been ably steered professionally well, resulting in progress and still counting that has resulted in increased understandable pride of Albueranons. Infrastructure projects are abounding. A 300- meter seawall brought signs of relief to residents living along seashores with large waves that dash to the shores on inclement weathers, thru the continuing leadership of Mayor Sixto de la Victoria for 3 terms that was succeeded by Mayor Erlinda de la Victoria, his wife now on her second term. Albuera PNP station was jointly funded by the PNP and with funds from the local government of Albuera.

Pride of barangay officials are enhanced with a sturdy and artfully designed ABC Hall that has been erected, a very clear indication of the local leadership’s concern in barangay affairs. Aware of the crucial role small and big-time businessmen play in terms of access of people to a well and aptly designed, to include income-generating activities for the town, the public market which is being expanded by more new structures while the other buildings are undergoing repairs, maintenance and more improvements to fit into the purpose for its existence. At the moment one could see an impressive and dignified 3-storey Philippine National Police building erected for easy access to constituents which stands beside a large auditorium that can accommodate a thousand people.

There is something unique in Albuera that can lead one to name it a “bridge to wellness”. Just within the municipal hall compound is a unique health center, a newly constructed building. It has easy access to the Mayor’s Office as both are in a second floor. From the Mayor’s Office in another building can be seen an overpass – a bridge with durable steel railings to protect passers-by from the sun or rain and is also roofed with a new transparent cover that leads to the rural health unit. Patients therefore that need information and more, especially assistance to be sought from the Mayor’s Office relative to their health and medical problems have easy access through this unique bridge.

Albuera could become one of the viable tourist destinations in Leyte. It has a scenic Sibugay mountain resort with beautifully erected colourful cottages some 20 of them lined along the clean pollution-free Sibugay River. The resort is an offshoot of the setting up and operation of the Albuera Water Supply System. The resort covers about 2 hectares of a relatively flat, rugged and hilly land within the water shed area some 3 kilometres away from the town proper. It can be reached via an 80% concrete road and the rest gravelled surface. Albuera flea market that operates on Thursday & Fridays. There are 3 public market buildings in Albuera

It has a natural swimming pool both for adults and minors. To the adventurous and daring, it has a well-structured and safe zipline for use. Within the periphery of the resort are mini forests with fruit trees. The Sibugay Mountain Resort is haven to people who would want to relax, enjoy the beautiful scenery and this has been visited by local and foreign tourists. It has contributed in a large measure income generation of the town. Other resorts in Albuera that are often patronized by tourists are the Baybayon ni Agalon beach resort and the LGS Scandinavian Resort. All these tangible development and a lot more happened during the incumbency of Mayor Sixto de la Victoria who was succeeded recently by his wife Erlinda.
