TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, February 16 (PIA) – The City Government of Tacloban has installed No Build Zone tarpaulins along the coastlines of Anibong and Old Road Sagkahan.
This is a manifestation that the City Government is serious in its thrust not to allow homes to be constructed within the 40 meters buffer zone in order to prevent unnecessary loss of lives in case another storm surge hit the city.
This was learned from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management in its report to the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, recently.
The Philippine Information Agency noted that No Build Zone signages are also found along creeks and bridges in the city.
The report added that the City has completed the relocation of the 40 meters coastline (buffer zone) within Tacloban City for Mangrove and beach development projects.
These are part of the Natural resources protection program of the City and National Government.
The Environment Cluster of the City also said that there is an ongoing post Yolanda project monitoring and evaluation of GIZ funded reforestation projects.
Moreover, the Environmental Cluster said it continues to monitor garbage collection and transport.
It also continues the management and supervision of the City’s Waste Disposal Facility at Barangay Santo Nino for proper waste disposal and to ensure the smooth flow of operation. (PIA 8)
