Tacloban fast tracks transfer of garbage from Abucay to Santo Nino

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, February 3 (PIA) – The City Government of Tacloban gave the assurance that it is fast tracking the transfer of all the garbage at Abucay near the Tacloban New Bus Terminal to Barangay Santo Nino where temporary dumpsite is located.

Atty. Irene Chiu of the City Mayor’s Office said, “We cannot give the time table as to when it would be finished but what we can promise is that it is one of the priorities of the City government.”

The Abucay site where the all garbage and debris from the rubbles of typhoon Yolanda were temporary piled near the terminal, it was learned, is the site of the Robinsons North.

Chiu said that the City really has to work double time to clear the area because that Robinsons management has already informed the city government of the intention to start construction soon.

To recall, the garbage piled at Abucay near the New Bus Terminal was the subject of complaints as it is not only an eyesore to the visitors arriving at the bus terminal but also acknowledged as a health hazard to the public. (PIA 8)
