P20M flood control structure now being undertaken in Calbayog

CALBAYOG CITY, Samar, February 3 (PIA) – The Department of Public Works and Highways Samar First District Engineering Office under the leadership of District Engineer Virgilio Eduarte is now closely monitoring the progress of the ongoing construction of Flood Control Structure in Barangay Begaho, Oquendo District in Calbayog City, Samar.

Just recently, Engr. Albert Lazana, Chief of the Maintenance Section, and the Maintenance Point Persons (MPPs) conducted an ocular inspection of the said project.

He said that the project was allocated with P20 million budget under the FY 2013 Regular Infrastructure Fund and is under contract with CDU Construction.

The project, he said, covers the removal of trees, structures and obstructions, structure excavation, embankment from borrow, hand-laid embankment, installation of reinforcing steel bar and pipe culverts, aggregate base course, structural concrete and 230 mm. thick Portland cement concrete pavement.

As of January 30, 2014 project monitoring report, CDU Construction has accomplished 45% of the contract since November 28, 2013. The target of completion for this project is on March 28 this year.

Per information of Ms. Leviresa Barnizo, Samar I PIO staff, the Samar First District Engineering Office will implement a total appropriation of P220 million for the Construction /Rehabilitation/ Improvement of Flood Control Structure Projects this year 2014. (PIA 8)
