James thanks Kris for defending him

SAN MIG Coffee Mixers star cager James Yap is thankful to his former wife, Kris Aquino, for defending him against criticisms that he "sold" his game during the game 6 of the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals.

Yap said that he was surprised by the television host's gesture but welcomed it completely.

"Thank you. Surpresa 'yun. Hindi ko yun in-expect," he said in a interview aired on his ex-wife's newest primetime show "Aquino & Abunda Tonight."

Earlier, the Queen of All Media said that Yap will not sell his game for any reason whatsoever. She said he gave his whole life for the sport.

"As somebody who used to read the contracts of James Yap, pag pumasok sila sa finals, kahit anong benta and sinasabi nila, matutumbasan yun ng kikitain nila. Ganun kalaki ang kontrata nila," Aquino said.

Yap's team will advance to the PBA Philippine Cup finals, where they will face Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, after beating Ginebra San Miguel Kings in the Game 7, 110-87.

The presidential sister also revealed that Yap could spend his birthday on Saturday, February 15 with son James Jr., also known as Bimby.

In a Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP.ph) interview, James said that he hopes that Aquino's comment will be the start of their renewed friendship.

"Ito na yung pinagpa-pray ko na maging okay na lahat kasi mahirap yung magka-away. May anak kami. Sana magkabati, kung hindi man ngayon, baka in the future."

He is also excited to bond with Kris' eldest son, Joshua.

Meanwhile, James was asked on his birthday message for Kris, who is celebrating her 43rd birthday on February 14, and reaction to rumors that someone is courting her, he replied, "Good. No comment na ako dyan. Basta enjoy life." (Sunnex)
