DSWD conducts validation of households for availment of roofing assistance

The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Eastern Visayas this week, conducted household validation to determine how many sheets are to be given in Tanauan, Leyte particularly at Barangays Guingawan, Cahumayhumayan and Cabarasan Guti.

After the validation, cards were given for their identification during the release of GI sheets the following day, Ms. Vina Aquino, DSWD 8 information officer said. For Barangay Guingawan, cards were given to 141 households for a total of 2,290 GI Sheets.

Meanwhile, for Barangay Cahumayhumayan, 216 households were given cards for a total of 3,055 GI Sheets. It may be recalled that some 75,000 pieces of 3”x 9” GI Sheets are to be distributed through the Department of Energy (DOE). DOE Secretary Jericho Petilla said, “We are now to put roofing on the houses,” as he stressed that people along coastal areas should be discouraged from reconstructing their houses.

Under the Oplan Yero, the DSWD will monitor the distribution of roofing materials, particularly the GI sheets and nails, while the DPWH will transport the said goods. The first two municipalities identified to be given roofing assistance are Guiuan in Eastern Samar and Tanauan in the province of Leyte.
