Capitol sends 102-man team for relief works in Leyte

Around 102 personnel from the Provincial Government of Pangasinan departed for Tacloban City, Leyte on Friday to extend help to Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) victims in Eastern Visayas.
Governor Amado Espino Jr. said the personnel are bringing with them five dump trucks, one ambulance, two buses and one van that will be used in the relief and rehabilitation works to be conducted in a barangay in Palo, Leyte that was adopted by the Provincial Government.
The Pangasinan contingent travels by land up to Sorsogon province, where they will take a roll on, roll off vessel for Tacloban City.
The contingent is composed of 46 personnel from the engineering department who will help rebuild a school. There will also be doctors and nurses to take care of the sick people.
Espino said the contingent brought with them medicines, including relief goods like blankets, food items, slippers and toys for the children.
The contingent will conduct humanitarian works for one week, he said. Espino and Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim promised to join the Pangasinan contingent after three days.
Prior to the send-off Friday, the Provincial Government also donated P2 million each to the city of Tacloban and the province of Leyte. Espino said the cash donation was one way of showing to the people of Leyte the province’s heartfelt sympathy to the victims battered by the calamity.
“We have to show concern and care for the people who are suffering especially the children,” Espino stressed. Bohol also received a P2-million donation from Pangasinan after it was hit by a magnitude 7.2 earthquake last October.Pampanga
