Sandigan asked to revive case vs ex-Quezon mayor

MANILA, Philippines - The Sandiganbayan has been asked to revive a case filed against a former municipal mayor in Quezon province in connection with the destruction of a statue of a local hero 10 years ago.
State prosecutors said over the weekend that the case against former Lucban mayor Moises Villaseñor and his assistant, Joselito Avila, stemmed from the destruction of the statue of former governor Hobart Dator Sr., a member of the respondent’s rival clan, in 2004.
The complaint against Villaseñor and Avila was first filed with the office of the provincial prosecutor on March 15, 2005.
The provincial prosecutor recommended the filing of charges against the respondents in 2010.
The case was filed with the Office of the Ombudsman, which in 2013 ordered that it be filed with the Sandiganbayan.
The anti-graft court dismissed the case on March 15 due to late filing.

State prosecutors blamed the provincial prosecutor for the inordinate delay in the filing of the case against Villaseñor and Avila.
They want the Sandiganbayan to revive the case against the respondents.
