President Aquino led the turnover of command at the Philippine Air Force this morning, at the Fernando Air Base in Lipa, Batangas.
Aquino lauded the service of retiring Air Force Chief Lieutenant General Lauro Catalino Dela Cruz saying under Dela Cruz's leadership, the Air Force was able to heed the call of duty.
The president cited in particular the Air Force's response to calamities and conflict despite the lack of equipment.
Aquino adds, under Dela Cruz, the Air Force now has three C-130s and other combat and trainer aircraft.
Aquino, meanwhile, says he expects more improvements in the Air Force under its new commander Major General Jeffrey Delgado.
Aquino says Delgado will lead the Air Force towards modernization and professionalism.
Delgado is a skilled pilot who served with the Presidential Security Group during the time of President Aquino's mother, former President Cory Aquino.
Aquino meanwhile promised to improve the Airforce's facilities and equipment as well as training and benefits of Airforce personnel.
