Solar power plant in Ormoc soon

ORMOC CITY, Philippines — After utilization of the recyclable geothermal energy, another environment-friendly power source will soon operate in this city.

This may be become possible after the City Council approved Resolution 2014-021, authored by Councilor Ruben Capahi, declaring the city government’s support for a solar power plant project.

The Philippine Solar Farm-Leyte, Inc. (PSFLI) had proposed to construct a 30-megawatt solar power plant at Barangay Dolores in this city.

The council’s resolution stated that the project is expected to bring in another milestone in the development and progress of Ormoc City, and that it will not only “help stabilize the city’s coffers through future business taxes and other fees, but also boost the tourism industry and employment of the city.”

PSFLI is now in its final stage of documentation for the solar power plant, prompting the City Council to show its support by further vowing to assist in the reclassification of the project area, from agricultural to industrial use, based on the provisions of the Local Government Code of 1991.

Mayor Edward Codilla, for his part, aired his support for the solar power plant and he advised residents near the project site not to be apprehensive about it. “This power plant has no health risks,” he declared. (FREEMAN)
