PSALM gives AboitizPower, Vivant Corp. right to sell Unified Leyte output

State-run Power Sector Assets & Liabilities Corp. awarded the contract to sell portions of the production of Unified Leyte geothermal facility to the subsidiaries of Aboitiz Power Corp. and Vivant Corp.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange on Monday, AboitizPower said wholly owned subsidiary Aboitiz Energy Solutions Inc. was appointed as independent power producer (IPP) administrator for 40 strips of energy of Unified Leyte Geothermal Power Plants at P4.6629 per kilowatt hour (kWh).

In a separate disclosure, Vivant said its subsidiary Vivant Energy Corp. was named as administrator for 17 strips of energy for Unified Leyte. It did not disclose the contract price.

The PSALM bidded out IPP administrator contracts for Unified Leyte, covering 200 strips of energy, last Nov. 7, a day before Typhoon Yolanda barreled through Central Philippines.

On November 19, the Energy Department disclosed the main power plants supplied by the 650 MW Unified Leyte – the 232 MW Malitbog, the 112.5 MW Tongonan, the 180 MW Mahanagdong, and the 130 MW Upper Mahiao – were out because of significant damage in the cooling towers.

Energy Development Corp. (EDC), the operator of the facility, said on Nov. 21 it will turn down the responsibility to contract a portion of Unified Leyte following the damage the power plant sustained from Typhoon Yolanda.
