Palace assures help for Martinez in next Winter Olympics - Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang on Saturday aid that ice skater Michael Christian Martinez may be able to join the next Winter Olumpics in 2018 as more groups expressed willingness to help the young athlete financially.
"With the attention he has received and the heart he has shown everybody siguro mas ma-improve ang situation," deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte.
Valte said that the Philippine Sports Commission will help Martinez just as it provided aid to the young skater for this year's Winter Olympics.
Martinez was the first Filipino and southeast Asian athlete to join the Winter Olympics. He was able to enter the medal round, but failed to get the winning score.
Despite Martinez's failure to bring home a medal, Valte said the athtlete may get more sponsors in 2018 because of his impressive performance.
"Undeniably (his performance) will attract more attention for him and hopefully donors from the private sector will come," she added.
