Magnitude 5.3 quake shakes N. Luzon

MANILA, Philippines - A magnitude 5.3 earthquake rattled parts of Northern Luzon yesterday afternoon.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the tremor occurred at 1:56 p.m. with its epicenter traced at 29 kilometers southwest of Burgos, Ilocos Norte.
Phivolcs director Renato Solidum said they were not expecting major damage from the tremor.
The quake was felt at Intensity 5 in Pasuquin and Intensity 4 in Sarrat, Laoag and Paoay, all in Ilocos Norte.
Intensity 3 was felt in Sinait, Ilocos Sur; Claveria, Cagayan, and Bangui, Ilocos Norte.
It was also felt at Intensity 2 in Santa, Ilocos Sur; Callao, Peñablanca and Calayan in Cagayan and Intensity 1 in Baguio City.
