Members of Iglesia ni Cristo who joined the church's charity walk on Saturday set two new world records for having the most participants in a charity event and for holding the longest charity walk in multiple venues in different time zones. Some 175,000 participants joined INC's "Worldwide Walk" in Roxas Boulevard on Saturday, the largest number of participants in a charity walk, according to Guinness World Records adjudicator Kirstie Bennet.
The previous record of 77,500 was set during Singapore's New Paper Big Walk 2000 on May 21, 2000. Proceeds from the Singapore walk went to education, sports and charity organizations.
The INC charity walk also garnered another recognition for having the longest charity walk in multiple sites as 500,000 INC members from different countries participated in the event.
Wearing white shirts and wristbands, INC members on walked along Roxas Boulevard. Each participant donated P250 to support Typhoon Yolanda relief efforts.
