Storm signals up as 'Basyang' nears Leyte, CARAGA. Tropical Cyclone Basyang left three people dead and affected more than 28,800 people in the Visayas and Mindanao, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Saturday evening.

In its 6 p.m. update, the NDRRMC said two of the fatalities were from Cebu while the third was from Southern Leyte.


One of Cebu fatalities was from a motorized banca that capsized off Camotes Island, Cebu.


Basyang also affected 6,193 families, or 28,892 people, in 90 villages and 23 towns in seven provinces of Western, Central and Eastern Visayas and Caraga.


Around 3,356 families or 18,131 people were displaced and are staying in 60 evacuation centers.


The NDRRMC also monitored 10 landslide incidents and flooding in Southern Leyte.


Meanwhile, as of Saturday noon, 7,464 people were stranded in southern Luzon, the Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Manila.


Also, 56 flights were canceled due to Basyang. — DVM, GMA News
