Tacloban identifies new burial site for Yolanda victims

The City Government of Tacloban has identified a new and permanent burial site for those who died due to super storm Yolanda.

City Administrator Tecson John Lim said during the DRRM Council meeting held at Leyte Sports Development Center (LSDC) that the city has started developing the site at Holy Cross Cemetery located at Barangay Basper in this city to provide a decent burial site to all Taclobanons who were victims of the tragedy.

“All dead bodies which are properly identified and tagged shall be transferred to the memorial site for Yolanda victims,” Lim said.

Lim asked Taclobanons to understand this move in adherence to the international standards in the management of dead persons in times of disasters like what happened when super typhoon Yolanda hit the region last month.

Based on the latest data of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) in the region showed that in Tacloban City alone the total number of casualties reported is now totaled to 2, 418, both identified and unidentified.
