Leyte fourth district Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez is shown receiving a check from officers and members of the Rotary Club of Makati South yesterday.
MANILA, Philippines - The Rotary Club of Makati South donated 50 motorized boats to fishermen affected by Super Typhoon Yolanda in Barangay Naungan in Ormoc City.
“This would certainly help the people get back on their feet after the unimaginable horrors inflicted upon them by the monster Typhoon Yolanda,” Rep. Lucy Torres Gomez of the fourth district of Leyte said yesterday. Gomez said livelihood is the best relief and rehabilitation assistance that could be given to typhoon victims.
“Thankful as we are for all the help flowing in, there is a different kind of joy when the survivors are given the means to stand again on their own. Not only does it empower them, it preserves their self-dignity, which perhaps is the only remaining treasure they have left,” she said.
“In the past they had to contend with simple bancas, now they are endowed with the motorized variety which would hasten the return to normalcy of their communities,” she added.
