Fire guts convent in Leyte town

A fire hit a convent in Tanauan, Leyte on Thursday evening. Fire erupted at the convent of Our Lady of Assumption Parish at around 9:30 p.m. after a lit candle was left unattended inside one of its rooms. Francisco Bebiro, caretaker of the convent, admitted leaving the candle lit.
The fire reached the general alarm, prompting about 15 firetrucks from surrounding towns in Leyte to respond. Residents were saddened by the incident as the convent is one of the oldest structures in the town.
